Art as a catalyst for Seeing, Visual Thinking and Creative Learning.
The aims and objectives of Primary Art Programme : *The art programme is specifically designed around a central art theme each term which enthusiastically promotes classroom learning *Each lesson is designed to promote a problem-solving activity which encourages imaginative and lateral thinking skills *Independent and group artwork activities are encourages so that interaction of ideas can be seen as beneficial in a friendly collaborative setting *Students are encouraged to explore and work with a broad variety of art materials *Children are invited to discuss, write and evaluate art themes thereby incorporating new art vocabulary, relevant to their art room experiences *Art is linked with the Chagim to promote a deeper understanding of the children’s cultural heritage *Mathematical processes are directly linked to artwork via symmetry, grid work, geometric shape, perspective concepts and measurement. This new focus is in keeping with the revised version of the current Curriculum Standards Frameworks (C.S.F.) *Linking artwork where possible to artists and artworks through art history/appreciation including posters, film, brochures and in particular children’s books *Relaying a broader outlook and appreciation of all art forms through excursions to galleries, museums, visiting artists and puppeteers. These experiences are planned to extend existing themes which students are studying *Students are encouraged to take pride in their artwork and artroom via:mounted artwork displays around the school which the children often help to set up and especially the annual Leibler Yavneh Art Exhibition. *Their responsibility in bringing extra supplies of reference books to promote their art theme *Students are encouraged to show initiative and responsibility for the smooth running of the artroom.
Art Forms experienced at the end of the Primary School : *Drawing with pencil, oil pastels, chalk, coloured pencils and textas *paining with acrylic paint, water colour and inks using bristle and sable brushes *Collage using varied papers, fabrics, and other 2D materials : decoupage *Printmaking using found objects, collograph, relief stencils and marbling techniques *Textiles using different fabrics, simple decorative stitching, applique, beading and pulling threads *3D Modelling in clay or papier mache and construction with found objects, cardboard, wood and other 3D materials *Computer images, learning to use techniques in relation to visual art.
The importance of art/craft in the Primary curriculum for students: *involves the making of the artistic product, the employment of artistic processes, learning through experiences *contribute to the development of a positive self image *provides cultural knowledge and understanding through artists and artworks *emphasis the importance of individuals *enhances (visually) all other subject areas in school through image making *visually celebrates and widens understanding of the Chagim and other aspects of religious life
All art experiences from Years 1 to 6 are sequential and are designed for students to reach their potential at each stage of their development.
