HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION 

YEAR 7
The Year 7 program caters for a wide range of sports tastes, complementing all facets of the secondary sport curriculum. All Year 7 students begin with a fitness regime that focuses on personal health and physical well being. During the year the boys undertake a hand-polo unit followed by softball. In Term 2 they begin winter sports including soccer, football, squash and bat-tennis, followed by an indoor sports day. To complete the year the boys perfect their athletic skills in the lead up to sports day in November. The girls begin the year with swimming, which concludes with the school’s swimming carnival, complementing their Bronze medallion training. In Term 2 they complete a netball and soccer unit followed by an indoor sports day. Term 3 and 4 include a newly introduced football clinic followed by the athletics carnival in November.Senior_sport.jpg

YEAR 8
Year 8 students begin the year with swimming, focusing on times trials, water safety, theory, and for the girls their Bronze Star Medallion. In Term 2 the boys begin their winter sports program including football, soccer and fitness, while the girls test their skills at roller-hockey, soccer and fitness volleyball. During the second half of the year all students learn the basic skills of lacrosse (taught by current Australian Lacrosse Captain Darren Nicolas). The boys then perfect their tennis skills as well as kickball and racquetball, while the girls are given the chance to participate in a football clinic. All students then cap off the year with athletic time trials and sports day.

YEAR 9
Physical Education for Year 9 offers students a wide range of sports, catering to student’s individual needs. The girls are introduced to self-defence which encourages confidence and self-esteem, while the boys begin with a water-polo unit which helps them develop underwater skills as well as focusing on teamwork and improving their hand-eye co-ordination. Winter sports such as football, soccer, tennis and squash are offered to both girls and boys in Terms 2 and 3, with the main focus of the program being personal fitness. The girls can attend spin classes while the boys have regular gym sessions as well as inter-house sports, followed by sports day at the end of the year.Rollerblading_045.jpg

YEAR 10
Year 10 students begin their year with a splash in the pool perfecting their strokes, learning water safety and completing their Bronze medallion. The secondary swimming carnival follows towards the end of term 1. The girls undertake a fitness program during Term 2 that includes regular gym sessions, volleyball, tennis and squash, all of which improve their physical and emotional well-being. In Term 3 the boys and girls participate in a leadership training program which gives them confidence and the ability to lead by example around the school. This encourages them to feel more confident and to pass on their knowledge to other students. Term 4 features a range of sports from inline hockey to archery, dance and athletics, all in readiness for Sports day in November.

YEAR 11 & 12 (VCE)
Introduced in 2007, Health and PE is being offered as a VCE elective, taught by Darren Nicolas. The subject focuses on health and fitness as well as nutrition, dieting and daily food intake. This subject enables the students to understand the fundamental truths about healthy living and a balanced lifestyle, complementing their nutritional intake and physical well being.
